Character Information

Name: Estinien Wyrmblood
Canon: Final Fantasy 14
Canon Point: Post Patch 3.3
Age: 32

History: Wiki.

Personality:
➤ STOIC: Despite having been fuelled by a thirst for vengeance most of his life, Estinien plays his emotions pretty close to his chest, and doesn't seem to be particularly easy to agitate. While threats and disrespect will receive the same in kind, he doesn't go out of his way to start fights in social settings and keeps his own anger and frustration at a cold burn. He doesn't often show overt sentimentality and takes most things in stride. He's already experienced so many horrible things, there isn't much that causes him to visibly balk.

➤ IRREVERENT: While he isn't easily provoked, he does pretty much just go ahead and say whatever he feels like saying in a given moment. He sees no need to pay respect to things or people he sees as unworthy of it, and scorns all of the Ishgardian social customs he considers to be a waste of his time. He doesn't have much respect for Ishgardian politics, nor the behavior of its church. That isn't to say that he's rude for no reason - it's just that he'll casually take the piss out of anybody that he thinks has it coming, including himself.

➤ INDEPENDANT: Estinien isn't the kind to spend much of his time in the company of others. As a teen and young adult, he spent most of his time training, having little interest in pursuing friendships or even attempting to socialize. In the present, he has managed to end up with some friends despite himself, but even so, whenever he spends much time in other people's company, it seems inevitable that he will eventually head off on his own again. He values his privacy and is accustomed to handling things on his own - when serving as the Azure Dragoon, he ran away with Nidhogg's eye alone for what was probably months striving to keep the dragon horde at bay on his own terms. He resents other people trying to force him to do things, and requires some arm twisting to play with the team. He'll work alongside others for pragmatic reasons, but doesn't tend to hang around for purely social purposes.

➤ LOYAL: Despite his penchant for self-isolation, Estinien is dedicated to his cause and to the people he cares for. He's fought tooth and nail for Ishgard, and after leaving that duty, he's quick to assume the mantle of a warrior fighting for man and dragon both. He has a tendency to appear out of nowhere to aid his companions, and though he usually leaves soon after, he'll do what he has to do to keep them safe.

➤ SINGLEMINDED: Estinien has no hobbies and has spent his entire life fighting and training to fight better. The war against the dragons has been the only thing on his mind for a long time, and until very recently he's had no desire to actively pursue anything that isn't that. He doesn't take particularly good care of himself physically or spiritually as a result, given that his attention rarely strays from the task at hand.

➤ VENGEFUL: This one is a bit difficult, since at this canon point it's in a state of flux, but the desire for vengeance above all else has been a defining part of Estinien's life. After losing his family to dragons at age 12, his every action has been driven by the need to pay dragonkind back for his loss. Though learning more about the cause of the Dragonsong War caused him to reflect upon his quest, it wasn't until Nidhogg possessed him body and soul that he realized just how similar he and his foe were. Recognizing the suffering behind his own enemy's quest for vengeance, it allowed him to find empathy for his foe in a way he hadn't before, and in the time following his rescue he's come to feel guilt for his own violence against dragons.

Where and how did your character enter the Hedge? After he slips out of the infirmary and goes grave visiting, he runs into the hedge during his travels. Given that giant vines have no business being in the wintery landscape of Coerthas, he made the mistake of investigating too closely.

Skillsets: Fighting dragons, being a dragoon, using a lance, jumping, surviving, literally nothing else.

Inventory: His lance. It's probably made of some kind of fantasy metal rather than iron, given the FFXIV crafting system. It's also made of dragon funk.

Sample: TDM Top Level
